Mary Martin Fox was born
October 2nd, 1950. She grew up on Chestnut Ridge in
Baltimore County, Maryland, enjoying country life without
all the responsibilities of life on a farm. Mary’s family
lived on just an acre lot and the only animals she had to
tend to were a dog, a parakeet and a goldfish … for a short
period of time. Mary’s family was one of the first in the
neighborhood to own a small black and white television set
in the early 1950’s.
Through her early years, Mary’s social outlet was Grace
Falls Road United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed
worship and fellowship – and then on Saturday mornings, her
mother helped her to enjoy cleaning the church. Her specific
duties were to dust the pews and straighten the hymnals.
After that, she could tarry around the church playing hymns
on the piano and singing. She enjoyed church choir as well
as school choirs.
After attending Franklin Elementary, Junior and Senior High
Schools, Mary graduated with a commercial diploma in 1968.
Her plans were to be a secretary and she began that full
time for Dr. Charles Williams in Pikesville, Maryland. As
time marched on, Mary married, moved to College Park,
divorced, and attended college in the evenings while
continuing to work full time, advancing in her career to
administrative assistant, executive assistant and eventually
a manager of varying degrees. Mary’s learned skills in
English, writing and photography have been instrumental in
Fox Meadow Publishing and The Legacy of a Country Boy.
